Anesthetic and tranquilizer injection.
50 mL vial.
Anesthetic.
Tranquilizer.
Muscle relaxant.
Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic that depresses the thalamus-cortex and stimulates the limbic zone, producing a cataleptic state with muscle hypertonia and somatic analgesia, while maintaining the corneal, pharyngeal, laryngeal and swallowing reflexes. Midazolam provides muscle relaxation and a quieter post-operative period.
Premedication, induction and maintenance of balanced anesthesia.Chemical restraint for diagnostic tests.
100 mL of the solution contains:
Ketamine base (as hydrochloride) 5 g
Midazolam base (as hydrochloride) 0.2 g
Excipients q.s.
Dogs and cats: Ketamine 5 mg/kg - Midazolam 0.2 mg/kg, slow IV or IM (equivalent to a 1 mL of the sterile solution for injection every 10 kg of body weight).
Severe liver disease. Renal failure. Decompensated heart failure.
Ketamine causes increased salivation, therefore, the use of atropine in the anesthetic premedication is recommended. In cases of very rapid intravenous injections or in cases of overdosage, respiratory depression may occur.
If used as premedication and induction of anesthesia, administer only once.
The addition of Midazolam counteracts several of the adverse reactions of ketamine; yet, it is recommended to use with caution in: Animals with a history of seizures
Head trauma with increased intracranial pressure
Glaucoma
Hypertension
Hyperthyroidism
